This hotel is brand new. And that means everything is very nice and clean, everything works and the hotel staff is very eager to help you. We were positively surprised with the quality of the room which I think is much better than the average 3 star hotel. The hotel manager is pleasant and talkative and suggested brilliant restaurants and cafés. Location near Pantheon in the heart of Rome hardly comes better. Hopefully the hotel can live up to this great start for long time.
There is not yet breakfast included, but the breakfast room is ready and they are looking for a decent quality breakfast service. The cafés around the hotel offer italian breakfast, caffé latte and croissant for a few €.
The location is stunning for lovers of old Rome. The owner Francesco is an absolute delight. Helpful without being obtrusive, and a genuinely nice person. The rooms are a tasteful comfortable blend of old features with new design and colours.
Very comfortable bed,Real feather pillows!! Good windows-kept out the noise of the piazza. AC quiet. Increadible location-just a few steps from the Pantheon, Very nice decor-bequtiful satiny walls. Large and well equiped bathroom. Helpful staff.
Shower leaked. Its not really a suite-other rooms 'share' the suite area which included a small couch and bureau. I feet that the picture of the room, which included the couch, was misleading.
The Relais is situated inside a 200 year old building (on the 1st floor) in excellent location right on the picturesque Piazza de la Maddalena just a few steps from basic sites such as Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori and only a few minutes from Fontana di Trevi. All the suites of the Relais where very new and modern. The Junior Suite we booked was also new, beautiful , spacious, modern, very well decorated. Comfortable bed, air-condition worked just fine. The bathroom was also new, modern and clean. The view from the suite was beautiful on the piazza (a little noisy when window was open but closing the window noise just “disappears”). At the time we where there (21 – 24 /5/2010) the Relais wasn’t ready to provide breakfast so we can’t say anything about it. There are plenty of café’s and restaurants near so coffee and food is quite easy to find. The manager, Francesco, was very polite and helpful. He provide us we all the information we needed. Cleaning service was also fine. I would definitely suggest the Relais for anyone who likes a clean, comfort, modern stay very near the most beautiful sites of Rome.
I think providing breakfast will make it a better choice for family travellers.
Relais Maddalena is an excellent boutigue hotel right in the center of old Rome which has just opened. The owner has paid an utmost attention to every small detail, filling the spacious rooms with designer furniture and expensive appliances. Everything about this small hotel looks immaculate and its location right next to the Pantheon is simply perfect, the best you can find in the city.
What a wonderful location from which to experience Baroque Rome. Steps from the Pantheon, and in easy walking distance to everything you need to see. Francesco is a terrific host, the room is beautiful, comfortable, and ours had two large windows overlooking the Piazza Maddalena and it's cafes and church. Breakfast is a great addition with fabulous cappuccino. We'd come back for sure!
The location was fantastic, we could see the Pantheon from our window! Situated in Centro Storico, most sights were within walking distance. The room charming and with a good amount of space. The bathroom was great and breakfast area pleasant and service prompt. Really close to a wide range of restaurants. It is small, intimate and quirky-access through an old green door straight off a piazza-you really feel you are staying somewhere different and special.
We would stay there again.Only thing to improve would be access to free wifi.
This was an most enjoyable hotel. Staff could not do enough for you, room was comfortable and location was wonderful. Highly recommend this hotel.
There is no lift and the stairs are a trial on arrival but perservere and you will be rewarded.
We spent a wonderful three nights here. They had a great breakfast and the staff was most welcoming. The room was an oasis to come back to after a busy sightseeing day in Rome. Highly recommended.
Wi-fi was inconsistent.
Francesco and his staff were very accommodating and friendly. Our room, in this boutique hotel which overlooked Piazza Maddalena was immaculate and very nicely fitted out with modern bathroom facilities, plenty of storage space and a very comfy bed. Breakfast was just right with fresh fruit, croissants, cerials, toast, various hams & cheeses and superb coffee and service. Being a two minute walk from the Pantheon we were perfectly placed for all the sites and restaurants. The hotel is in a lovely old building in a very lively piazza with a great atmosphere. This may be an issue in the summer months if you want an early night and you are a light sleeper because even with the good double glazed windows you will get some noise into the early hours if you overlook the Piazza. However we think this is a small price to pay to get the full atmosphere of the Eternal City at it's best in such a perfect location.
Very nice position overlooking small piazza, comfy bed, nice linen . Very modern bathroom and excellent towels ( best quality , better than many 5 star hotels that I have stayed in )
Negatives are only a couple of things, It's really only a guest house that isn't staffed full time so if you do need to contact staff for any reason you cannot. The breakfast was dismal. I am very used to the continental breakfast as I work in Europe 70% of the year but this rates at the bottom end, sorry.
The location was perfect (right near the Pantheon) and Francesco was very welcoming. The room, although somewhat on the small side, was fine for a room in the heart of Rome. The breakfast was excellent with the fruit being particularly delicious.
There were a lot of stairs to climb with our bags when we first arrived and there was no wifi access in the hotel. We sat on the steps of the church outside the hotel to check our email by "borrowing" another wifi service.
Francesco went out of his way to make our stay as wonderful as possible in the little time we had to spend. I will recommend to family traveling to Rome in October and will return next summer!
We wanted to stay somewhere very central to explore Rome on foot and picked Relais Maddalena on the basis of its generally excellent reviews. We were not disappointed.Francesco & his staff made us very welcome - he was always easily available by telephone although not on site. We had two well appointed rooms - a smaller room without a view for our 2 teenage children and a larger double with a delightful view of the Piazza della Maddalena. Despite overlooking a small Piazza the excellent soundproofing meant that there was no noise from outside. Air conditioning worked fantastically - essential during our stay. Good breakfast of fresh fruits, cereals, ham , cheese, croissants , yogurts etc Everything was on our doorstep. We walked easily to all the major attractions with the Pantheon be literally just around the corner, Piazza Novona & Trevi fountain only a few minutes walk. The Vatican though further, was still an easy walk for anyone with moderate levels of fitness. This was the perfect place to stay for us.Thank you Francesco!
No complaints we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended it to friends & Colleagues. We hope to return ourselves!
The location was great, right near the Pantheon. The room was spotless and the facilities were the best we encountered in Italy. The owner was informative and very helpful about directions and things to see. As an aside, I wound not recommend eating in the Piazza Madalenna as the restaurants near the room were overpriced and had hidden costs not on the bill of fare.
We liked everything about our room although we had to leave for the airport before we had the breakfast included.
